In early August, I will be leaving the parish to take up a new ministry at St. Mary’s College, Oscott, Birmingham. Two weeks ago, I was asked by Archbishop McMahon if I would take on the role of being one of the Spritual Directors in the Seminary, at Oscott.
After having served, most happily, as your Parish Priest for the last seven years, I am extremely sad to be leaving this wonderful community; a community that has always made me feel welcome and at home throughout my time with you. During the last seven years we have been on quite a journey together - bringing two former parishes/communities together to form one new parish, as well as establishing many new parish groups. It has been a joy for me to work alongside so many joyful and committed people; I don’t think I will ever find a parish as good as this one again! Throughout the remainder of my priestly ministry, I will always be truly grateful to God for the love, enthusiasm, fun, support and commitment I have received from so many people in this parish. From the moment I arrived in September 2012 until today, I have always felt part of this community. I am not going to find leaving here in August easy, so please keep me in your prayers as I will remember you and your families in mine.
Archbishop McMahon assures me that he will be able to send you a new priest in September - once I have more details about who be replacing me, I will keep you informed. I am sure you will make the new priest as welcome as you have made me.
I look forward now to celebrating my last Easter with you, and hope to find time to come and visit as many of you as possible before I leave.
Every blessing for the remainder of Lent and Eastertide.
Fr. James
